Got a few questions for you pros out there....

First off I'm not doing the FCC ...rather FF Stair Races....
I was wondering is it REALLY worth it to get actual "race gear" ?
How light is "race gear" ?
What are some websites that I may find it?
I searched the net and found a few companies that make FF gear in general....but I didnt see ANYTHING that remotley resembled "Race Gear"....

I see its a fairly HOT topic on here but if someone has a set they want to sell PLease gimme a shout ! I'm guessin I'd need about a 36x34 pants & 42 coat...11.5 boots...

    Thanks for any help!

    Hi Erich,
I too have been competing in stairclimb events the last few years. Although they are charity events it is very competitive. I also did an individual Challenge event two years ago and am looking forward to Reno next week. Wow! Stairclimbs and FFCC! you can't get anywhere near two extreme activities for F/F. I have noticed competitors wearing "racing" gear. It's basically stripped down turnouts w/o pockets, etc. that barely comforms to NFPA 1971 specs. Some gear looks like forest gear. I will point out as others can attest, the gear won't make you any better/faster. Nothing beats blood, sweat, and tears.
I wear Globe Extreme, which is my every day turnouts. The drawback is it is a little heavy. I love it for the job but I’ve seen some nice racing gear that Lion makes that is a little lighter/flexible. I’ve been looking for a set of racing gear as anything that will help keep me from not overheating as quickly is worth the $$$. Unfortunately the gear is expensive. You can get into a set of Lion/Janesville for $800. I’ve been trying to gather sponsor help to offset costs. Or be patient and I’m sure you will find a good deal on this board or other forums, if I don’t grab it first. Lol. Good luck with your stairclimbs, Dan

I disagree with your statement that lighter gear won't help your times. We used Secutitex for our last season of competition which meets NFPA specs, has the labels sewn inside them and have no pockets. The coat is cut in "Ike" fashion to the waist. Every ounce carried on you helps when attempting to shave .10ths of a second and also when other guys in comparison are even carrying tools in their coat pockets. The shorter coat length also allows for greater hip/leg movement going up the stairs compared to the crotch-length coats.

By the way, this set of turnouts is for sale CHEAP. We competed between 1997 and 2000. I worked for On-Target for 3 years. I am 6'3" tall and weighed 215 at that time with a 34-36" waist and 36" inseam. Chest size then was 48". The sleeves have the thumb-hole wristlets. I would take $200 for the set with liners and suspenders and you pay for the shipping. I am in SW Colorado 81147. Your size?
